Not all prayers are equal. The prayers of the devotees who are on the path of spontaneous loving devotion for Rādhā and Kṛṣṇa, rāga-marga, naturally differ from the prayers of those on the vaidhi-marga, or the path where bhakti is regulated by adherence to scriptural injunction and driven ultimately by fear. Śrī Caitanya Mahāprabhu and His followers, rāga-marga-sādhakas, do not pray for any ordinary thing. They solely desire the mercy of Bhagavān and His pure devotees. They pray that the mercy of these personalities come into their heart and give rise to anurāga. If someone desires realization of such loving attachment, he will have to pray like this. The pure love of Vraja cannot come by any other means.
In this book, Śrīla Narottama dāsa Ṭhākura offers prayers in a mood of genuine humility, deep love and longing, thus teaching us how to pray ourselves. We pray for Śrīla Gurudeva.
