[Excerpt from Srila Gurudeva: Around the World, U.K. 1996 (Radlett, 23 May), the second book in a series of volumes on Srila Gurudeva’s world preaching tours.]
Srila Gurudeva: Tamala Krsna Maharaja, Gopala Krsna Maharaja, and many others make much propaganda against me. Why do they say that I speak against sastra? I see that Caru Maharaja is an orphan boy. I give him much love and affection, as I would do to a small child. I have taught that boy how to serve Svamiji. When I saw him he was like a boy. During the final period of his stay in his world, Svamiji told his disciples, “You should hear and try to follow.” Why did Svamiji say this?
So, they are all doing propaganda. Those who haven’t spent much time with me are engaged in this propaganda.
Syamarani didi: I think she doesn’t understand what you mean. You mean that on his disappearance day in Vrndavana, Srila Prabhupada told Bhakti Caru Maharaja and the other sannyasas, “Listen to what I have to say.”
[Syamarani didi speaks to a devotee]
At that time Srila Prabhupada asked Srila Narayana Maharaja, “Now I have collected many monkeys who know how to fight. You please train them up and make them into good devotees.”
Srila Gurudeva: In my view, Caru Maharaja is like a little boy. But, I honor him because he has done so much service for Svamiji. But even now, when he meets me, it seems that he is my little boy; he is like my son. I think of all of them like this. Where is Bhavananda? Where are the others? But, I am still serving Svamiji. Do you need any more proof? They don’t understand me. Perhaps, a motive of material gain and loss has entered their minds; a spiritual motive hasn’t entered their minds. So, I pray to Prabhupada and Krsna that they should inspire them to think of my words as being favorable to Svamiji. They should realize that I am illuminating the views of Svamiji. I am not going to tell anything new; there is nothing new with me. I speak what our Acaryas have already spoken. Their message has descended from Adi-guru Brahma. Svamiji has not said anything new; he has given the old wine in the same bottle. And from the same bottle I want to give. We have nothing new to give. Srila Prabhupada Bhaktisiddhanta Sarasvati has never told anything new. Our Acaryas only repeat what Sri Caitanya Mahaprabhu has said. The bottles are new, but the wine is the same. They should understand this.
