O moonlike Kṛṣṇa, please soothe and cool my eyes with Your sidelong glances, tinged with mercy; with the magnificence of Your childhood, touched by youth; and with Your wondrous playfulness, which nourishes the entire universe.
After suffering for an inconceivable amount of time in material existence, which is like burning in the heat of summer, fortunate souls come to Vṛndāvana. Contemplating Kṛṣṇa’s feet, they surrender unto Him; seeing His chest, they desire to serve Him; and peering at His face, they take His beauty in their heart and feel cooled. Then the autumn season comes with a cool, damp mist. Water droplets sit atop the grass, and all plants happily drink this water.
Kṛṣṇacandra has kāruṇyāmṛta, tāruṇyāmṛta, and lāvaṇyāmṛta. By seeing Kṛṣṇa, His kāruṇyāmṛta cools and melts the heart. His tāruṇyāmṛta is like a fine mist, covering everything with a sweet loving mood. Kṛṣṇa’s lāvaṇyāmṛta, beauty, attracts and enchants everyone. Kṛṣṇa’s merciful glance gives joy to all living entities; it maintains and pleases all the worlds. His tāruṇyāmṛta, the beautiful kaisora age, spreads love everywhere, like a cooling mist. Everywhere, hearts are cooled, making everyone feel very well.
A person who bathes in a river in the summer becomes cool and moist, but when he comes out, he again becomes hot from the dry weather. In the water there is some help, but coming out it is dry, and one is hot again in a moment. Similarly, without Kṛṣṇa’s karuṇā, mercy, everything is dry. If Kṛṣṇa bestows His karuṇā, everything is refreshed—one will never again suffer from any heat. From Kṛṣṇa’s eyes, face, and entire body, these cooling rays emanate, maintaining the three worlds.
All types of heat are stolen by Kṛṣṇa. If there is heat within, one cannot be cooled by external help. Anarthas are types of heat. If there is no paramārtha, then there are only anarthas. The heat of separation is something else. One must perform strong spiritual practice to understand these topics. Prakṛti, material nature, and transcendence, aprākṛta, may appear the same from external perception, but, in fact, they are as opposite as life and death.
If all heat does not leave, how can one feel well? Outside one is cooled, but inside, there is still heat. Therefore Kṛṣṇa takes the heat away from within and without, cooling everywhere. Kṛṣṇa enters the hearts of His devotees and engages in pastimes with them there, He cools the burning heat of their separation from Him. He cools any external heat by showering everyone with His kṛpā-kaṭākṣa, glance of love and mercy.
kadā vā kālindī-kuvalaya-dala-śyāma-taralāḥ

kadā vā kandarpa-pratibhaṭa-jaṭā-candra-śiśirāḥ

When will Kṛṣṇa cast upon me His sidelong glances, which are as dark blue as the blue lotuses growing in the Yamunā and tremulous with waves of mercy? When will my heart find boundless joy in the playful notes of His flute, which are more cooling than the moon held on the head of Śiva, Cupid’s enemy?
Bilvamaṅgala Ṭhākura prays, “When will I go to the bank of the Kālindī Yamunā. A boy the complexion of a fresh raincloud is there. He is very restless, like water that cannot stay in one place. Kṛṣṇa’s mercy is like waves, flowing and swelling from one place to the next. It doesn’t stay in one place. How can we catch and arrest that? Śiva Ṭhākura is very powerful. He conquered Cupid himself, burning him to ash; thus he was able to keep the powerful flow of Gaṅgā-devī in his dreadlocks. How can we keep Kṛṣṇa’s kṛpā-kaṭākṣa, glance of mercy, in our hearts? Kṛṣṇa’s mercy is like water, very liquid, and
always moves from place to place. Also, Kṛṣṇa’s flute call always runs here and there. How can we collect and save it in our heart and never allow it to leave, like binding it with dreadlocks in our hearts?
Kṛṣṇa’s love makes all of Vṛndāvana green; the Yamunā’s water is greenish-blue, and everyone’s hearts are clean, soft, and vibrant. All the residents of Vraja serve with love. They are qualified and always have a dāsya mood, thinking, “I am a servant.”
Kālindī Yamunā-devī, has blue lotuses and blue water. Kṛṣṇa’s reflection is present with her always. If anyone is with Kṛṣṇa at all times, always remembering Him in his heart, then Kṛṣṇa’s qualities, mercy, and holy abode are also present with that person. Then it is possible to always have His merciful glance and love.
On the bank of the Yamunā, Kṛṣṇa waits and watches. If anyone comes in front of Him, his heat is cooled and he becomes peaceful. Because of desire, people become restless. When people think of Kṛṣṇa, their hearts become cooled and pervaded by happiness—all desires are satisfied. When ordinary people go to other ordinary people, their desires increase more and more. However, by going near Kṛṣṇa, all desires are cooled.
Śiva Ṭhākura cools his head with Kṛṣṇa’s caraṇāmṛta. Anyone whose heart has lust, or any bad desire, if they come near Kṛṣṇa, automatically their heart will be cooled and they will forget their lust. Their restless mind will become very peaceful.
Bilvamaṅgala Ṭhākura prays, “O my dear Nātha, beloved Kṛṣṇa, merely by Your darśana You cool everyone’s heart. So, when You speak, sing, kiss, or embrace someone, then what will be that person’s position?”
